Memorandum
Members, Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly
THRU: John J. Williams, Borough Mayor
FROM: Craig Chapman, Finance Director
CC: Rachel Parra, NPRSA Director
DATE: April 5, 2006
SUBJECT: Ordinance 2005-19-49, appropriating funding for replacement of the disinfection system at the North Peninsula Recreation Service Area (NPRSA) pool
The disinfection system at the pool is in need of replacement and is scheduled for replacement in September when the pool is shut down for annual repairs. The NPRSA board included the funds necessary to replace the system in its FY2007 capital plan.
Because preparation and custom building of a new disinfection system takes three months, and in order to have the system ready for installation in September when the pool closes for its annual maintenance, it is necessary to appropriate the funds in the current fiscal year. This will allow enough time to award a contract for the purchase, construction, and installation of the disinfection system which can be completed during the September shut-down.
The ordinance would appropriate $150,000 in FY2006 from the NPRSA Capital Improvement Fund for the new disinfection system.
The NPRSA board will consider the authorization to move this project from a FY2007 appropriation to a FY2006 appropriation at its April 24, 2006 board meeting.
