In the 2006 Legislative Priorities and related requests for funding from the State, the Borough included a list of capital projects related to needs at the schools throughout the Borough. The School Board and the Borough Assembly approved this list. Funding for some of these projects was included in Senate Bill 231, the State’s capital budget, which was passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor in July 2006. The State Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development (“DCCED”) has notified the Borough that $105,000 is available for four school-related projects. Legislative grants do not require any matching funds and are available for up to five years.

The four projects that have received grant awards through DCCED are:

Kenai Central High School – Bleachers - $25,000

Nikiski High School – Security Cameras - $5,000

Sears Elementary School – Roof Repair - $30,000

Soldotna Elementary School – Drainage - $45,000

Passage of the attached ordinance will accept and appropriate the grants, making funds available for capital improvement projects at brough schools.
