SUBJECT:    Ordinance No. 2006-19-17: An Ordinance accepting and appropriating $17,000 from the State of Alaska for Purchasing a Brush Fire Attack Vehicle for the Anchor Point Fire and Emergency Medical Service Area

The Anchor Point Fire and Emergency Medical Service Area (“Service Area”) has identified the need for a brush fire, fast attack vehicle (a 6x6 ATV). This type of vehicle will allow firefighting personnel to get closer to a fire more quickly without walking and carrying equipment over long distances.

A request for funding an ATV was included in the Borough’s 2006 State Funding Priorities as the Service Area’s number one priority. Funding for the project was included in Senate Bill 231, the State’s capital budget, which was passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor in July 2006. The State Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development has notified the Borough that $17,000 is available to the Service Area for an ATV brush fire attack unit. The Service Area Board approved the acceptance of this grant at its meeting of July 17, 2006. Passage of the attached ordinance will accept and appropriate the grant, making funds available to the Service Area to purchase an ATV.
