SUBJECT:    Ordinance No. 2006-19-30: An Ordinance accepting and appropriating $30,000 from the State of Alaska for fire station improvements for the Lowell Point Emergency Service Area

The Lowell Point Emergency Service Area (“Service Area”) has a partially finished fire station to house its firefighting equipment and supplies. Improvements are needed to make the building more usable year round. These include improvements such as electrical upgrades, a heating system, plumbing, and a locked area.

Funding for the project was included in Senate Bill 231, the State’s capital budget, which was passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor in July 2006. The State Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development has notified the Borough that $30,000 is available to the Service Area for fire station improvements.

At its regularly scheduled meeting on September 12, 2006, the Service Area voted to recommend that the Assembly accept and appropriate the grant. Enactment of the attached ordinance will provide funding for the necessary improvements to the fire station.
