SUBJECT: Ordinance 2006-31 (Sprague, Martin) Substitute
On July 11, 2006, we presented a memo to the assembly and administration asking for Ordinance 2006-31 to be introduced and set for shortened hearing on August 1. This request was made because we wish to place the question of whether or not the assembly should adopt transportation powers on an areawide basis on the October 3 ballot. We feel it appropriate to place this issue before the voters in order to gauge the public’s support of public transportation or lack thereof. The ballot description would go into more detail of just what transportation does and does not entail. In order to meet the timeline to be on the ballot, this ordinance needed to be addressed at the first meeting in August. The necessary amendments to the ordinance are in this substitute for your consideration.
