RESOLUTION 2000-018
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF TESORO ALASKA'S CONTINUED
OPERATIONS ON THE KENAI PENINSULA
WHEREAS, Tesoro Alaska Corporation opened its Kenai Refinery in 1969 with 17 full time employees running 100% Cook Inlet crude; and
WHEREAS, since that time, the number of employees at the Kenai Refinery has grown to 175, with a local payroll exceeding $15,000,000 annually; and
WHEREAS, much of the $5,000,000 refinery turnaround of 1996 was spent locally utilizing the services of a large number of Peninsula contractors; and
WHEREAS, Tesoro Alaska employees have contributed more than $50,000 to the Kenai Peninsula United Way and have participated in a wide range of community organizations and activities; and
WHEREAS, Tesoro Alaska Corporation has been very generous in its many contributions to local nonprofit organizations; and
WHEREAS, a healthy and active oil industry is vital to the well being of the Kenai Peninsula Borough;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH:
SECTION 1. That the Assembly commends Tesoro Alaska Corporation for the role it has played as an outstanding corporate citizen of the Kenai Peninsula Borough and urges its parent company, Tesoro Petroleum Co., to do whatever is necessary to insure the continued operation of the Kenai Refinery.
SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution shall be sent to Bruce Smith, Tesoro Petroleum Company CEO, and Rodney Cason, Tesoro Alaska Corporation Vice President.
SECTION 3. That this resolution takes effect upon its adoption.
