MEMORANDUM
TO: Ron Long, Assembly President
Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly Members
THRU: John J Williams, Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor
Craig Chapman, Finance Director
FROM: Scott Walden, OEM Coordinator
DATE: September 7, 2006
SUBJECT: Resolution 2006-083, Transferring $43,800 in General Government Capital Project Funds to Purchase Furnishings for the Emergency Operations Center
Cabinets, shelving, and blinds were omitted during construction of the Emergency Operations Center (“EOC”) portion of the Emergency Response Center as they were considered “additive alternates.” The need remains to install cabinets and shelves throughout the facility, though on a smaller scale than originally designed.
The EOC and the Classroom/Library need shelves and cabinets as originally designed. All other areas need shelving and no cabinets. Installing these items per the original design is not possible in offices, as there would be no space left for existing office desks, etc.
Carousel and lateral files take the space that cabinets would occupy and are less expensive and more efficient for daily office use. Shelving is still needed in all rooms. Additionally, the main floor and dispatch break rooms need small tables and chairs.
The estimated cost to accommodate these needs is $43,800.
