MEMORANDUM
TO: Ron Long, Assembly President
Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly Members
FROM: John J Williams, Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor
Milli Martin, Assembly Member
DATE: September 7, 2006
SUBJECT: Resolution 2006-084, Supporting the efforts of Anchor Point Health, Inc. and SVT Health Center to offer a health care clinic in Anchor Point
Anchor Point, an unincorporated community in the borough, currently has no medical clinic. During the 1990s there was a staffed health clinic in Anchor Point that was extremely well used and has been greatly missed since its closure. At this time the closest medical clinic is in Homer, which is approximately 16 miles away. Community members in Anchor Point have recently established a non-profit corporation, Anchor Point Health, Inc., whose main objective is “to promote the level and quality of health care for Anchor Point, Alaska.” The Seldovia Village Tribe (“SVT”) Health Center currently provides health care services in Homer. As described in the attached material, these organizations are exploring expanding the SVT Health Clinic into the Anchor Point community. Representatives of both organizations have met with representatives of the Alaska Primary Care Association to discuss options regarding opening a clinic in the Anchor Point community and have requested that the borough express its support for this program.
Your consideration of this resolution is appreciated.
