Seward had just wrapped up
its annual Independence Day bash when Bear Creek Fire was toned out at
6:24 am on July 5 to a MVA at
Mile 53 of the Seward Highway.
Initial reports gave unknown occupants and injuries. Secondary reports
advised possible fatalities. Bear Creek Fire, Moose Pass Fire, Cooper
Landing Fire, and Seward Volunteer Ambulance Corp all responded.

Bear Creek responders arrived on scene 30 minutes after callout to find
a small red car had collided with a white pickup towing a boat.
Upon impact, the boat trailer detached from the truck, throwing the boat
and trailer from the scene. The car had been damaged beyond recognition,
fatally wounding the driver.

Bear Creek, Moose Pass, and Cooper Landing worked together extricating
patients.
Three of the occupants were still in critical condition. SVAC and
Bear Creek transported the patients 10 miles down the road to meet with
a LifeFlight crew, who transported victims to Anchorage hospitals.
