Construction Permitting
Construction permits are not required within the KPB except within the incorporated cities - Homer, Kenai, Seldovia, Seward and Soldotna; therefore, data reported in this document does not include all construction activity. It does, however, provide the reader with borough trends. Permit Categories include Residential New (RN), Residential Alteration/Addition (RA), Commercial New (CN) and Commercial Alteration/Addition (CA). Individual cities may have other categories, but in an effort to provide consistent categories across the KPB, those categories have been combined into one of the four. Borough-wide new residential construction is presented in the annual statistical report, Situations and Prospects. Homer, Kenai, Seldovia and Soldotna permit activity has been recorded since 1986 but Seward did not require permits until 1988.
