 VISITORS TO THE KENAI PENINSULA

Visitor counts are not an accurate indication of tourism activity because many visitors do not stop at the centers while others may stop at more than one. However, trends are important in evaluating marketing techniques and for planning business activities.
Tourism in the KPB is not limited to visitors from the other forty-nine states and foreign countries. A 1999 Anchorage Daily News report stated that 6 out of 10 Anchorage area adults traveled to the Kenai Peninsula during the previous 12-month period. Thirty-five percent came for fresh water fishing and 32% came for sightseeing. Some trips were multipurpose and multi-destination trips as 58% visited Soldotna and 48% visited Kenai. Seward received 47% and Homer 38% of Anchorage visitors.
