The KPB encompasses 24,737 square miles, but 34.5% of the area is under water.
Most government-owned land is set aside for reserves, sanctuaries, parks and so forth. Private and Native owned lands are available for development but less than 8% has been developed.

 

The remaining 34.5% of KPB area is under water or waterways.
